Barminski: Converse Wire Shoes, Size 9

$1,200.00

Barminski’s piece is 3D sculpture created from cardboard and paint.

Barminski's cardboard sculptures are wonderfully playful and fun. In the gallery, this pair of shoes hangs from an electrical wire spanning the width of the space in a nod to this decades-old practice in New York and now all around the world. People have speculated on the meaning of sneakers hanging from a wire for decades, but the truth is, there are a multitude of reasons for this, and often, no reason at all. But they are ubiquitous in NY and other major cities around the US.

Bill Barminski is a legendary painter and multimedia artist who recently had a career retrospective at Castelli Art Space in Los Angeles. Barminski's work has spanned innumerable music videos including collaborations with: Death Cab For Cutie, Kid Cudi, and, Rob Thomas, as well as movies, magazines and advertisements. Some of the most notable include the Absolut Vodka billboard on Sunset, Baz Lurhmann's iconic Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) video, or the security entryway to Banksy's Dismaland. His work has also been featured as part of Beyond The Streets and at the De Young Museum in San Francisco.
